When Alberto and I arrived at Union Station after the Dodger game versus the Marlins, we made our way to the waiting room. Before we were able to relax, we were told by a security guard to leave the premises due to the fact that we did not have a ticket… We followed his orders even though we argued that we had just ridden the Dodger Stadium Express, which offers free transportation to and from the Dodger Stadium.
As we waited outside for his parents to pick us up, we were approached by a group of guys riding on fixies. They were from Echo Park. At first I felt anxious because 1) it was night 2) they looked like cholos 3) we overheard talking to other people about religion. One of the guys skidded to a stop, his flashing lights blinded me and I lowered my vision so as not to make eye contact.
"Sir, have you heard of Jesus Christ?"
"Do you believe in Jesus Christ, our savior?"
"Yes, sir. I have to. I’m in the military."
By the time Alberto finished answering his questions, we were surrounded by at least five guys riding fixies. I was uncomfortable, but as soon as the guys explained to us that they were going to pray for us, I was not as anxious as I was before.
Since I’ve never prayed or had anyone pray to me, I just bowed my head and closed my eyes. After they had finished, Alberto’s parents pulled up.
Before we left, they handed us a flyer, shook our hands, and bid us farewell.
